Posted on May 14, 2017 by Shelly Shively

I came to urban chicken farming in 2009. Initially, I wasn’t all that enamored with chickens, per se. I viewed chickens in the same category as a garden; something living, and, if tended well, would offer a payout in return.… Continue Reading →

Cowboys are different than you and me, especially after they’ve been drinking. You don’t want to screw up their dinner, that’s for sure. They’ll come at you with murder in their eyes. I know this from personal experience, a long-repressed… Continue Reading →

Mistress of the Mix: VIVA MEXICO!

Posted on May 5, 2017 by Valerie Ing

Ten years ago. It was Cinco de Mayo, and I found myself at the Del Taco drive-through ordering a burrito (which really isn’t a thing in Mexico, btw). On a whim, I asked the kid at the window if she… Continue Reading →

  • Comment on Three Rabid Bats Found in Shasta County This Year; Practice Safety to Avoid Rabies by Steve
Pictured is a fruit bat (one of the flying fox species). They don't occur in the Western Hemisphere except in zoos. Unlike our insect-eating bats, they rarely carry rabies.
  • Comment on Just in time for Halloween and the holidays, REU brings one of Redding’s oldest streets into 21st century by Joe Too
In reply to Beverly Stafford. Holiday might be a bit more expensive, but the one on hartnell and shasta view is a very clean store with no bums in the parking lot like rally's. And, they make great sandwiches.
  • Comment on California Community Colleges Earn Wellness Coaches Designation by Frank Treadway
Kudos to Dr. Frank Nigro and his team for putting the request together for this valuable program for our local population in need. One more reason Shasta College is the fine institution of higher education for local grads.
