The Wake-Up: Don’t Take Yourself So Seriously

Posted on May 23, 2017 by John Kalinowski

“What is… real? How do you define ‘real’? If you’re talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then ‘real’ is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.” – The Matrix (1999)… Continue Reading →

Life without TV

Posted on June 25, 2016 by John Kalinowski

April 1 was the day I decided to “Cut the Cord and Run.” Two months without a television; two months of feeling more productive, engaged, fulfilled. More reading, more writing, more friends, more fun, more balance… I’m calling this new level of… Continue Reading →

Trust Yo Self, Trust Yo Life

Posted on June 18, 2016 by John Kalinowski

Life is a river, a current you can float on or fight against. There’s no need to fight your way upstream. The current will take you where you need to go, but only if you can float. If you’re thrashing… Continue Reading →

How to Game the System

Posted on June 11, 2016 by John Kalinowski

Life is a system… “a set of connected parts forming a complex whole.” You are in and of yourself a system, part of many other systems – family, friends, business, government… every relationship you have. When one part of a… Continue Reading →

What if I’m Lazy??

Posted on May 28, 2016 by John Kalinowski

I recently had the most liberating epiphany… “what if I’m lazy?” At another time in my life I would have been mortified at the possibility that it might actually be true. And yet, in my current mental/emotional state it feels… Continue Reading →

I’m Better Than You… And???

Posted on May 21, 2016 by John Kalinowski

Something I’ve realized over the years is that anytime I make somebody “wrong,” I’m just judging them and inflating my ego. Making someone wrong can be as simple as being annoyed because they’re late or because they did or said… Continue Reading →

Cut the Cord and Run

Posted on May 14, 2016 by John Kalinowski

I tossed my TV in the closet on April 1 and have not looked back. I live in a studio apartment and can see the damn thing from every angle. So even when it’s not turned on it takes up… Continue Reading →

Blinded by Desire

Posted on April 23, 2016 by John Kalinowski

I’ve been consumed by desire lately… rather, I’ve been consumed by the notion of desire and how frequently it doesn’t really mean anything. I’ve finally begun to grasp how desire is more often synonymous with objectification than with making even… Continue Reading →

Rollin’ in the Fast Lane

Posted on April 18, 2016 by John Kalinowski

Nature is serving up a buzz of fresh energy as it reawakens from its months-long hibernation state… and we should all take note! Winter provides the perfect opportunity to move out of the fast lane and into a space of… Continue Reading →

Are You a Good Person?

Posted on March 29, 2016 by John Kalinowski

Something I’ve realized as of late is that I might actually be a good person. It may seem kinda crazy that this is a recent realization, but there’s a big difference between knowing you’re a good person in your head… Continue Reading →

What a wonderful article about a woman I admire so much. A musician, a baker, a mother, grandmother and a healer. I will never forget getting to attend a birthday party for Miss Piggy Sue. I first met Piggy when she was a wee one and watched her blossom and blossom and blossom! Thank you […]

Great lady. I enjoyed her energy and dedication as we served together on the board of the Shasta High Choir Boosters. Great smile, great laugh.

Shasta County has more 4-H youths than all of California’s other counties combined. Shasta County appears to be #1 in junior livestock sales with ~$2million/year compared to ~$1.5million for Kern... But Kern County has over 1,000 4H-ers, Fresno County has ~750, and Shasta is third with ~675. Statewide there are ~4,100, so ~1/6 California 4H-ers […]
