On your marks, get set …

Posted on November 13, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

The new Web site is nearly finished. In fact, my Web masters (my son Joe in the Czech Republic, and a great friend, who wishes to remain anonymous for now) tell me the site could go live in the next… Continue Reading →

A pile o’ stuff . . .

Posted on November 11, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

I wrote late into the night on a blog that methodically showed how ludicrous editor Silas Lyons’ quotes were in the Thursday story after more than 100 people picketed the paper to protest my firing and the paper’s decline of talent and content.… Continue Reading →

p.s., week-old baby blog …

Posted on November 10, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

Oh, one more thing to add to the previous happy birthday little blog entry. Really, two things. First, I am so grateful to you, my fellow passengers, on our exciting journey through our Blogland adventure.  Thank you for joining me. Second, I make… Continue Reading →

Happy birthday, little blog

Posted on November 9, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

I may have said it a time or 20 that you would know I’ve been kidnapped by aliens the day I have a blog. That’s how sure I was that I’d never, ever have one. Why would I? I had… Continue Reading →

What now, my love, now that it’s over?

Posted on November 8, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

Free speech was alive and well in front of the Record Searchlight yesterday. More than 100 people (some estimates guessed as many as 140) gathered to protest what many believe is the paper’s mismanagement and rapid downward spiral. Some protested… Continue Reading →

Bruce Greenberg’s rally speech

Posted on November 7, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

Hey everyone. Some of you wanted to read the speech my husband, Bruce Greenberg, wrote for the rally and presented in front of the Record Searchlight today. Here it is: “A local newspaper has certain responsibilities. Besides being the medium… Continue Reading →

About that march . . .

Posted on November 7, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

No, I won’t be marching, but many of my friends and loved ones will. Yes, Celeste is correct when she says I implore everyone to not paint the whole Record Searchlight with one rough, critical brush. I have scores of… Continue Reading →

Time’s on our side

Posted on November 6, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

I don’t pack well under pressure. As Mister Rogers would say, I like to take my time. Time was not on my side almost two weeks ago when the 30-something editor who’d been in that position for just four months… Continue Reading →

Can’t sleep

Posted on November 6, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

Here’s the thing about writing a blog: it’s real time. For example, here it is 4 a.m. and the grinding wheels in my brain made such a racket that they eventually woke me up and got me out of bed.… Continue Reading →

I think it’s going be good

Posted on November 4, 2007 by Doni Chamberlain

I feel like we’re standing on the edge of something good here. Just the words “something good” bring to mind one of my favorite images: a trio of little boys (about 3 to 6 years old), peering over a Redding… Continue Reading →

  • Comment on Three Rabid Bats Found in Shasta County This Year; Practice Safety to Avoid Rabies by Steve
Pictured is a fruit bat (one of the flying fox species). They don't occur in the Western Hemisphere except in zoos. Unlike our insect-eating bats, they rarely carry rabies.
  • Comment on Just in time for Halloween and the holidays, REU brings one of Redding’s oldest streets into 21st century by Joe Too
In reply to Beverly Stafford. Holiday might be a bit more expensive, but the one on hartnell and shasta view is a very clean store with no bums in the parking lot like rally's. And, they make great sandwiches.
  • Comment on California Community Colleges Earn Wellness Coaches Designation by Frank Treadway
Kudos to Dr. Frank Nigro and his team for putting the request together for this valuable program for our local population in need. One more reason Shasta College is the fine institution of higher education for local grads.
