I cannot imagine cooking without extra virgin olive oil. The bad news is that olive oil is sometimes priced like liquid gold. That’s why I’m always happy to find this one particular olive oil at the Grocery Outlet (GO) in Redding, and when I do, I buy it and stock up.
It’s 1-liter of Cucina Toscana Olive Oil from Italy, sold at GO for $7.99. Elsewhere it sells for double that amount.
It’s delicious, too, with a rich, nutty flavor. As an added bonus the bottle is pretty enough to save after the olive oil is gone. You can wash it and fill it with something else (like when you make limoncello). Dang. I didn’t capture the bottle top, did I? Sorry. It’s one of those flip-top numbers with the metal clasp. (One word about the bottle. It’s clear, which allows light to reach the olive oil. Keep your olive oil in a cool, dark place. Light is its enemy.
Here’s another liquid GO pick, but this one surprised me for its hyper-localness: a 12-bottle box of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Sierra Nevada Summerfest Lager. Both are sold at GO for $13.99, while it sells elsewhere for $16.99.
Last, because as of this post I still have not succeeded in winning Bruce over to the concept of raising chickens for our own eggs, I still need to buy them.
Luckily, GO had these Willamette medium eggs in an 18-pack, sold at GO for $1.29, while they sell elsewhere for $2.49.
