Posted on December 5, 2018 by Steve Towers

This “best of” article was originally published December 12, 2016. Christmas. I’m not the biggest fan. I’ve moved a safe distance beyond the days when my Grinch-like attitude was a downer for my wife Elise, who loves Christmas. I’ve learned… Continue Reading →

Two Tales of Youthful Misbehavior

Posted on August 16, 2018 by Steve Towers

I need a break from the news, and I’m hoping you need one, too. I’m Carr-fire exhausted. And I’m exhausted by politics—embarrassed for our country regarding the latest Trump news: the bruhaha with his fellow reality TV character, Omarosa. I… Continue Reading →

The End of Independence

Posted on July 25, 2018 by Steve Towers

For more than 30 years I’ve been registered as a voter under various third-party affiliations, or, more recently, as an independent voter. I’ve always been the first to admit that more often than not I vote for Democrats, especially in… Continue Reading →

Posted on April 24, 2018 by Steve Towers

There has been a raft of recent articles on ANewsCafe regarding Bethel Church and the way the leaders of the church view homosexuality, as most of you readers well know. In a nutshell: Homosexuality is a sin, but Jesus can… Continue Reading →

Welcome to Bizarro World

Posted on December 11, 2017 by Steve Towers

Any of you folks (besides me) old enough to remember Bizarro World? Back in the day it was a DC Comics alt-version of the Superman comic book series. Bizarro World was a cube-shaped planet where everything was the opposite of… Continue Reading →

A Taxonomy of Gun-Humpers

Posted on November 14, 2017 by Steve Towers

I know many people who own guns and are responsible gun owners. Their reasons for owning guns are varied—some are plinkers, some are hunters, others are hobbyists. One guy has a magnificent collection of muzzleloader rifles, inherited from his father… Continue Reading →

Piles upon Piles of Bullpucky: The Latest on Tax Reform and Wealth Disparity

Posted on November 1, 2017 by Steve Towers

After a string of stinging legislative failures, President Trump and the herd of cats called the Congressional Republicans are trying to run tax reform up the flag pole. To say that there is much at stake is to wildly understate… Continue Reading →

The Inbetweenies

Posted on October 23, 2017 by Steve Towers

The local fish-wrap recently ran an article about a bill signed into law by Governor Brown that provides Californians the option of choosing “non-binary” gender identity when filling out state forms—a third option to accompany “female” and “male.” The story… Continue Reading →

In reply to Beverly Stafford. "...but 2000 sounds a lot sexier than 2001." Unless you're a big Stanley Kubrick fan.
