Editor’s note: Leonard Moty, District 2 Supervisor, submitted the following statement to A News Cafe in the wake of preliminary recall election results. The official results have not been fully tabulated and announced by the Shasta County County Clerk.

I’m very appreciative and thankful for all of the community members who supported me. I also want to personally thank the many volunteers who worked tirelessly for the last 3 months against this highly destructive recall effort.
Funded by an out-of-state millionaire who is seeking revenge against the county, the recall effort has done nothing more than sow hate and division in our community. If the voters chose a different direction, which is probable, then they’ll get what Anselmo was willing to buy. I’m proud that I stood against anarchists, extremists, and white supremacists wanting to take over our county. As a lifelong resident of Shasta County, I’m very concerned with this change in leadership and its effect on our community.
