About the Shasta Land Trust

For the past 17 years The Shasta Land Trust has served our community by conserving the beauty, character and diversity of significant lands in far Northern California. Working with land owners, partners and supporters, The Land Trust conserves places that protect water quality and working agricultural lands and provide wildlife habitat and recreation. The Shasta Land Trust preserves places people love, for future generations to enjoy.

This summer the Land Trust celebrates the acquisition of the Great Shasta Rail Trail which creates a scenic 80-mile trail that links the towns of McCloud and Burney and nearby recreational areas. This project supports local heritage and culture, encourages close connections to nature, and boosts the economic and social vitality of local communities. A public celebration is planned for September 26, in McCloud during the annual Biketoberfest.

Also this year the Land Trust was chosen by the Stewardship Council and PG&E to hold 15 conservation easements, totaling nearly 33,000 acres, in Shasta County.  Located primarily within the focus areas of the Cow Creek Watershed and the Fall River Valley, these properties are connected through large habitat corridors and allow the organization to build landscape scale connections to significant lands.

Additional successes this year include the protection of a ranch in the Cow Creek watershed that brings the total of lands protected by the Shasta Land Trust in that area to 22,000 acres.

An opportunity to learn more about ranching and farming in our county and help preserve significant lands in the North State

Supporters of the organization are hosting a fundraising event on Sunday, September 6th – Cattlemen’s Day – at the fair in McArthur. This is more than just a visit to one of the state’s most beautiful country fairs. Enjoy a day with friends for this well-coordinated trip that offers you a chance to bring out your inner cowboy and participate in and learn about the Cattlemen’s Day activities.

The Intermountain Fair is a true community fair and one of the oldest in the state. Located 70 miles east of Redding on the edge of the Modoc Plateau, the mountainous region is home to numerous farms and ranches that give the fair a truly rural flavor. The area is beautiful at this time of year with wide-open vistas and cool, crystal clear air. The fairgrounds are in the center of the community and the parade goes through the small town of McArthur. The hometown and friendly atmosphere make the Inter-Mountain Fair a perfect outing for families.
