Matt Grigsby was born and raised in Redding but has often felt he should have been born in Italy. By day he's a computer analyst toiling for the public good and by night he searches airline websites for great travel deals. His interests include books, movies, prowling thrift shops for treasure and tricking his friends into cooking for him. One day he hopes to complete his quest in finding the best gelato shop in Italy.

I love the perspective…it makes the picture look like it's from another time, not 2012

I sat in a coffee shop in the grocery store just down from the ferry landing at Ketchikan one morning., There was a huge picture window where I was watching the sea planes land and take off. (There were a couple of cruise ships in.) There were several old timers in there watching the activity. It was fun to listen to them talk about this plane and that pilot and who had just overhauled his engine or flown a charter, etc., etc. It was like sitting in the old corner grocery listening to all the local chatter. That picture takes me back there. . . . thanx!

I love getting a peek into the local world when I travel, so I understand what you mean perfectly!
