Free Screenings Celebrate Cascade’s New HD Projector

Jefferson Public Radio & the Cascade Theatre will thank the community for its generosity and give the public an opportunity to experience the amazing color of the theatre’s new state-of-the-art digital HD projector in two separate free events on Sunday, October 16th at 2 and 6pm.

Theatre doors will open at 1pm for a 2pm matinee featuring the family-friendly Toy Story 3 (Rated G), which won this year’s Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Doors will open again at 5pm for a 6pm showing of another of this year’s Oscar winners, Inception (Rated PG-13), starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Both films will be proceeded by a brief presentation that will demonstrate the improved color and brightness offered by the new projector, and a short film created by local filmmakers Jesse Rosten and Callie Markle.

For the past several years, a fundraising campaign raised $35,000 to purchase and install a Christie HD10K-M high definition digital projector. Theatre Manager Jeff Darling says a lot of the credit goes to The Catalyst, a group of young Redding professionals who held several film-themed fundraising events for the effort, and Redding Rotary, which pledged a significant amount to help improve film showings at the Cascade.

More information about the event is available at the Cascade Theatre Box Office at 530-243-8877. No advance ticketing is required for the free film events, but donations will be accepted for JPR’s latest fundraising effort, the KNCA Power-Up Campaign. The campaign will increase the signal strength of the Rhythm & News Service of JPR in Shasta County (at 89.7FM) by tenfold, from 3 to 30 kilowatts.
