KIXE Wins $10K to Promote Healthy Eating, Literacy

KIXE-TV in Redding has received a $10,000 grant from the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health for a project to promote healthy habits among children and families.

Data indicate that about a quarter of children in the Redding area live below the federal poverty level. Literacy rates are low in some communities, and children in some areas rate poorly on a variety of health indicators. The project will produce TV spots on subjects such as healthful eating and literacy, and also will offer free parenting workshops and children’s events.

“KIXE is able to reach a wide audience,” said David Alexander, MD, president and CEO of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, “and we are pleased to support the station in educating children and families about factors that contribute to good health.”

The grant is part of a foundation program to bring attention to key issues facing children, and to promote the use of data in efforts to improve children’s lives. For a complete list of funded programs please visit www.kidsdata.org/contents/grants/Default.aspx

The foundation’s mission is to elevate the priority of children’s health, and increase the quality and accessibility of children’s health care through leadership and direct investment. For more information about the foundation’s programs, visit www.lpfch.org.
