Redding Police Checkpoint Nets 3 DUI arrests

The Redding Police Department conducted a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on Lake Boulevard on Thursday, June 30, 2011. A total of 507 vehicles passed through the checkpoint; 499 vehicles were screened by officers and 27 drivers were stopped for further investigation, either at the checkpoint or by officers patrolling near the checkpoint.

Four drivers were given field sobriety tests. Three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. Eight drivers were found to be driving on a suspended license and/or expired license and were subsequently cited. A total of four vehicles were towed as a result of the arrests and citations.

A representative of the Shasta County Chapter of “Mothers Against Drunk Driving” (MADD) was at the checkpoint providing drivers with literature concerning MADD and their goals to eliminate impaired driving.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
