What: Celebrate “Love at First Crush” at Pacific Sun: Olive oil mill’s open house showcases the North State’s finest products

When: Nov 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: 22880 Gerber Road, Gerber

A celebration of the North State’s finest locally grown olives will highlight Pacific Sun Olive Oil’s free “Love at First Crush” open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. The mill is located at 22880 Gerber Road in Gerber.

North state residents, food buyers and chefs are invited to meet Pacific Sun’s owners and employees, pick olives in the orchards, watch the milling process and sample olive oil during the family-friendly event.
Activities include tours of the mill, hay rides, olive picking, music, olive oil tasting (and free sample bottles while supply lasts) and wine tasting from local wineries. Food will be available for purchase.

For the first time this year, people can bring olives from their own trees for crushing and then share the resulting oil, based on the amount of olives they contribute. Olives will be received from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the day of the event, and milling is 50 cents per pound.

Pacific Sun is part of Pacific Farms and Orchards, Inc., a family business that grows plums, almonds and walnuts. The farm was founded in 1952.

Pacific Sun has won several recent awards for its signature blends, including best of show and best in class gold and silver medal awards from the 2009 Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition, and two gold medals and a silver medal from the 2009 Yolo County Fair California Olive Oil first annual competition.
