Yvonne Preston, described by some as one of Haven Humane Society’s most controversial board members, who also served briefly as Haven Humane Society’s interim CEO, resigned from the animal shelter board in December.
Her departure was followed in January by the resignation of Nadine Bailey, who had joined the board at Preston’s invitation.
And now some sad news – especially for those who appreciate organizational transparency. Monty Hight, the retired California Highway Patrol public information officer who joined Haven’s board in September, resigned from the shelter board in March.
Hight, also a spokesman for the Redding Police Department, was unable to remain on Haven’s board because of a commitment he’s taken on that has a lot of new responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Haven has two new board members, Tanis Boucher and Vince D’Amato. Vicki Marler is the the animal shelter’s board president. Peggy McDannold is its vice president.
And former Chief Executive Officer Norm Ryan is scheduled to stand trial April 28 on charges of embezzling $1,387 from the organization.
Ray John, who became Haven’s director last summer after arguably the most tumultuous time in the animal shelter’s history, has consistently voiced his preference to look forward to improving the shelter, rather than backward to rehash old wounds.
Regarding Haven’s recent board changes John said, “I’m glad we have such a strong and supportive board of directors. Their collective leadership has made a significant contribution to the success of Haven Humane Society. I’m honored to work with them.”
Stay tuned for a story in the next month or so in which John will discuss the new-and-improved Haven Humane Society.
