Marian the Eagle is Ready to Fly Again

Posted on June 16, 2023 by Jon Lewis

It may be America’s national bird and the “symbol of supreme power and authority,” but the day-to-day life of a bald eagle can be somewhat less than majestic. Gunshots, vehicles, pesticides, wind turbines, drought, and wildfire are just some of… Continue Reading →

Of Eagles and Tehama Budget Squabbles

Posted on March 25, 2022 by Liz Merry

The two remaining eggs in the Redding Eagles’ nest have hatched and I’m suffering from serious cuteness overload. Mama Liberty has fledged triplets many times, so feeding two should be a breeze for her and daddy Guardian. You can see… Continue Reading →

The Turtle Bay eagles made famous by their refusal to leave a nest adjacent to Redding’s Highway 44 bridge construction endured Thursday’s snowfall in good parenting style — protecting the two eggs laid during the past week. Dubbed Patriot (male) and… Continue Reading →

  • Comment on Neighborhood residents go to court over county’s alternative custody campus and jail proposal by Rob Belgeri
"Enriquez said he also came up with an innovative idea that would bring together several Northern California counties to transform the deactivated High Desert State Prison into a regional jail." HDSP is still in operation and houses Level IV maximum security and no-parole lifers. Next door, the aging, decrepit, and poorly constructed California Correctional Center […]

In reply to Mike Michalak. Good feedback. I looked at the zoning map again. The businesses mentioned (Haven, etc.) hug Eastside Road. So an outdoor processing plant could be proposed in the HI area next to residential backyard fences. Perhaps the consideration should be expanded for the "big picture" into the future. There should be […]

In reply to MovingForward. Point well taken. The Kutras property adjacent to the Sundial Bridge was formerly zoned industrial and the proposed relocation site of the Wintu casino was zoned agricultural -until they weren’t. The River Ranch neighborhood has never registered an objection to any of the several industrial applications for area businesses, mills, cabinet […]
