Just Sayin’: Here I Go, Again

justsayin

Can you just hear that old Ray Charles tune, “Here I Go Again”?

It’s kind of interesting to sit back and just watch to see what my acquaintance with Doni is going to get me into next. But, nonetheless, here’s yet another (ad) venture in my life precipitated by none other than hers truly.

First it was the idea that #1a) I could write something coherent; and #1b) there would be anyone out there interested in reading it. I know you’ve all heard the story, ad nauseam, about how a passing comment from Doni — something to the effect that I should think about writing a column for anewscafe.com — resulted in my aspiring to the ranks of the verbally adept.

Having never written anything for public consumption . . . well, if you exclude all the notices and information papers I wrote for kids to take home to their parents, which inevitably got left in the kid’s backpack . . . I naïvely piped, “Okay!” And so was born, ‘Just Sayin’ . . . and now, almost seven years and 60-+ columns into this endeavor, I find I still shake my head in puzzlement at her leap of faith in my direction.

And all was well in the kingdom until . . . .#2) Matthew Lister and Align Private Training showed up in her life. It was bad enough that good health began to work its magic in her life, but, can you believe it; she felt she needed to share with the rest of us? And, worst of all, she was having a great time doing it!

Well, what’s a body to do; especially considering the body I happen to own. I kind of felt like the little kid running after the Wells Fargo wagon yelling, “Me too! Me too, wait for me!” And alas, there I was involved with some healthy magic of my own at Align Private Training with Matthew Lister. But those details are chronicled elsewhere.

So, OK. Good friends are about helping you make your life better; sharing the wealth of good information; you know, like what store is having the best shoe sale or which strawberry stand opens first in the spring or which bar has the best happy hour. That kind of stuff. And so, those two additions to my life certainly qualify in the wealth-of-good-information category.

But wait. There’s more.

The other morning, over coffee, I was bemoaning  — maybe “bewhining” is more accurate — the financial pressure I’m under due parts wearing out on this aging body. The warranty has long since expired. And yeah, on my car, too. To which Doni bubbled innocently, “You should do Airbnb!”

Well, there you have it: No. 3!

So now I find myself preparing my house like Great Aunt Matilda is coming from Lower Slobovia for a month long visit. Which brings us to the truth/fallacy of diminishing returns. No, I didn’t totally redecorate the room . . . quite. No, I didn’t remodel the guest bathroom . . . exactly. But it’s hard when you find yourself in Ross Dress for Less or T J Max not to see some cute little pillow or trinket and go, “Oh that would look so cute in that room!”

It’s almost as good as a brand new pair of shoes, not only in your size, but on sale, too!

In the meantime, I’m on standby and keeping an open mind for item No. 4.
