
The Shasta County Office of Education, along with the Friends of the Schreder Planetarium, invites families, educators, and science enthusiasts of all ages to a free, family-friendly science festival in celebration of the 101st anniversary of planetariums across the world. Join us on Thursday, May 7th, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Schreder Planetarium, 1644 Magnolia Ave. in Redding.
This interactive event will feature hands-on activities, immersive science experiences, and a chance to explore the wonders of the universe—all designed to inspire curiosity and awe.
What to Expect:
Planetary Passport Adventure: Visit hands-on activity stations, collect stickers in your passport, and spin the prize wheel when you complete your journey through the solar system! Enjoy activities hosted by Whiskeytown Environmental School Community, Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and Friends of Schreder Planetarium.
Solar Observing: Safely view the sun through telescopes with guidance from the Shasta Astronomy Club (weather permitting).
Planetarium Experience: Step into the dome for a 20-minute immersive show composed of short, awe-inspiring clips on space, Earth, and science themes.
Drawings Every 30 Minutes: Enter for a chance to win a set of four evening planetarium show tickets—drawings held throughout the event.
Explore Exhibits: Create a landscape and watch the water flow through it, create multi-colored shadows with your body, watch sound create amazing patterns, and more! We have 16 hands-on exhibits.
