Elected officials must represent their constituents—that is the foundation of our democracy. We elect them, trusting that they will serve our interests, not betray them.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa has failed that trust. His vote for the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill threatens healthcare for nearly 70,000 Medi-Cal recipients in Shasta County alone—38% of our population. Delivering Medi-Cal services to recipients is dependent on $940 million in critical federal funding which this bill will severely cut. Meanwhile, LaMalfa had no hesitation supporting the $8.7 billion Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. He voted to give $8.7B for a nation that already guarantees healthcare for its citizens. Why does he prioritize foreign interests over his own constituents’ health and wellbeing?
We, voters and taxpayers of Shasta County, demand accountability. All over CA Congressional District 1, protests are growing. In Shasta County, we rally outside his Redding office every 4th Friday (9-11 AM). Neither LaMalfa nor his staff will face us. Their silence speaks volumes.
Now, we’re taking formal action: a Resolution condemning his vote for what should rightly be called the “Big Ugly Bill.” (Attached.)
We pay his salary. LaMalfa should work for us. It’s time he remembers that.
