Former Flour Mill to be Reimagined

The iconic Moores’ Flour Mill on Shasta Street in downtown Redding celebrated 50 years in 2024. The Foundation purchased the site in 2022 and leased it back to Bob Moore, Jr., while Moores’ established its new facility off Airport Road. Bob turned over the keys to the Foundation this summer — an action both bittersweet and exciting.

This endeavor is a part of the Foundation’s 10-year commitment to community vitality. McConnell plans to preserve the name on the east side of the building, secure the property, ensure that the site is safe, well lit, and demolish the building’s attached metal structure, install perimeter fencing, resurface the asphalt, paint the exterior, and plant shade trees.

Potential plans could utilize both the indoor and outdoor areas, and include food and beverage purveying, as well as specialty retail. Beyond these initial ideas, the Foundation has not defined the site’s future, nor does it have a tenant or operator identified. Bob Moore once said, “People don’t want to just eat stuff. We want a story around it, a little romance about our food.”

“Moore’s took something as common as flour and created a successful company. The Foundation hopes that with an enterprising spirit, and the nostalgic air and history of the space, we can create something with a story around it for the next 50 years,” said John Mancasola, President & CEO of the Foundation.
