5 A News Cafe Staff Named as Finalists in California News Publishers Association Contest

Once again, A News Cafe is a winner. Out of 2,964 total statewide entries submitted to the 2023 California News Publishers Association’s California Journalism Awards, five members of A News Cafe’s team are on the list of finalists.

ANC’s CNPA finalists are: Phil Fountain/Editorial Cartoon, Mike Chapman/Environment Reporting, Doni Chamberlain/Page Layout & Design, and R.V. Scheide/Investigative Reporting.

One of the greatest, bittersweet honors was that therapist Doug Craig’s name was on the finalist list in the Health Reporting category. Craig died in October of 2023.

According to the CNPA website, the finalists represent the top journalism professionals across various categories and divisions in CNPA’s annual contest. Being named as a finalist indicates that selected winners’ entries are placed among the top five submissions in that particular category and division.

The finalists were selected by CNPA’s esteemed panel of judges, who carefully evaluated numerous entries based upon criteria such as excellence in writing, reporting, visual storytelling, editing, design, and innovation. The finalists’ outstanding work has earned them the distinction of being recognized as the best of the best in their respective fields.

Although ANC is aware of the winning finalists’ names and corresponding categories, the exact winning entries remain unknown.

The winners in each category and division will be announced during the California Journalism Awards Gala on July 13, 2024. This prestigious event celebrates the remarkable achievements of journalists and media professionals across the state, honoring their dedication to truth, integrity, and the highest standards of journalism.

By mid July CNPA will release and reveal the winning finalists and the specific winning entries.

In the meantime, please consider a show of appreciation for A News Cafe and its award-winning team with a contribution to this site. Thank you!
