The Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters, Cathy Darling Allen, announced the petition to Recall Supervisor Crye was sufficient. This approves the recall of Shasta County Supervisor Kevin Crye for an election.
The Committee to Recall Kevin Crye was required to obtain 4,151 valid signatures from registered District 1 voters to qualify the recall for the ballot. The committee submitted 5,106 signatures on September 12, 2023. The Clerk/Registrar found 4,929 of those signatures sufficient, qualifying the recall for the ballot.
The County Clerk will present the certification to the Board of Supervisors, on October 3, 2023, and have responsibility to schedule a date when the recall will appear on the ballot. We anticipate the date will be March 5, 2024. We appreciate the integrity and professionalism of the elections department.
Our politically diverse volunteers, funders, and petition signers should be proud. We all stepped forward to address Supervisor Crye’s behavior and votes. During his short tenure he has divided, betrayed, and failed our community. We have shown that actively participating in local government, and following the law, we can make a positive impact with our community.
With petitions now accepted, we are confident and eagerly planning for success in an election. We will have upcoming events, rallies, and town halls that will be advertised on our website and social media. We will keep voters informed on election status and other developments as they occur.
We are thankful for our grassroots volunteers and supporters making positive change to restore trust in the Shasta County Board of Supervisors.
