Cathy Darling Allen, Shasta County Clerk/Registrar of Voters, announces that the signature examination and validation process for the recall petition for Supervisor District 2 is complete. The petition has been found to be sufficient, and will cause a recall election to be held for Shasta County Supervisor District 2.
Proponents submitted 6,032 signatures, with a minimum number of 4,308 required to be valid. In verifying the petition, 4,476 signatures were determined to be valid.
The Certificate of Sufficiency will be presented to the Board of Supervisors at its next regular meeting, November 2nd, 2021, in accordance with California Elections Code section 11225(h). The Board of Supervisors will then issue an order of election in accordance with California Elections Code section 11240.
The Board of Supervisors has the authority to make the final decisions about this election within legal requirements. However, we will be making some recommendations. First, we will include a recommended election date of February 8th, 2022. Also, we will include a recommended signature in lieu of filing fee period and candidate filing period of November 3rd – November 17th, 2021. Candidates who are interested in running as successor candidates for Supervisor, District 2, in the event that the recall question receives more than 50% of the votes cast, must be a voter in the District under the current boundaries. The ongoing local redistricting process does not have any effect on this election, pursuant to California Elections Code section 21506(b).
