James Santos returns as Guest Artist for “CHICAGO” in Redding

James Santos, former Cirque du Soleil artistic director of DRALION will return to Shasta College this summer as Guest Artist and Choreographer for the smash Broadway hit “CHICAGO”. Santos, the founding director of A Cascade Christmas and The Dance Project, left Redding to serve as an Assistant Artistic director for Cirque du Soleil in 2010. He and his family now reside in Las Vegas.

“CHICAGO” will perform for three weekends beginning July 10 through July 26 at the Shasta College Theatre. Auditions will be held April 21-23, from 7:00-10:00 pm. in the Shasta College Theatre. Rehearsals begin June 10. For auditions please be prepared to sing, dance and act.

Shasta College has a long tradition of producing first class summer musicals that are aimed to thrill and enrich a regional audience. Auditions are open to the community, cast ages range from the late teens to seniors, and cast members earn transferable college credits. “CHICAGO”, is the perfect musical with a universal tale of fame, fortune and “all that jazz”. Winner of 6 Tony awards, “CHICAGO” will be co-directed by Dean Munroe and James Santos. Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury will conduct a full orchestra. David Fraser and Hilary Fahey will provide scenery and costumes.

    Will be nice to see James again. He is very talented so it should be a great production. I saw Chicago in New York City so I am familar with the story. I’m sure he will do a very good job on it.

    How lucky are we!!!! Worrying that with James leaving our area, quality entertainment would be kaput! – but no!! Many talented giving individuals have kept our superlative theater productions alive and well…but will be extraordinary to have James back if even for one production!!!

    Any production that involves James, is ALWAYS superlative. How blessed our community was to have him ‘in residence’ for a number of years and how exciting to have him return to this area. I hope this proves the first of many guest returns. James certainly left a footprint of excellence in our community.
