International ‘Big Library Read’ Program Comes to Shasta Libraries

Shasta Libraries today announced that it will be taking part in the Big Library Read program that makes popular eBook and audiobook available to all customers without wait lists or holds.

Library card holders will be able to borrow and enjoy the cooking eBook “Keys to the Kitchen” by Food Network star Aida Mollenkamp, starting February 17, and concluding the morning of March 5 by visiting overdrive.shastalibraries.org.

Customers will be able to select a lending period of one, two, or three weeks, which begins at the date of checkout.

Big Library Read is an international program that gives libraries and library customers unlimited simultaneous access to a popular title during the program, creating a virtual, global book club.

Interested customers will be able borrow “Keys to the Kitchen” using a valid library card to enjoy on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Kindle®, Android™ phones and tablets without worrying about wait lists or holds. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period.

There are no late fees!

“Knowing you are reading the same book as your neighbors and people across the country just adds to a sense of community,” says Elizabeth Kelley, the library’s adult services manager.

“We’re excited with the added element that readers might also be experimenting with recipes at the same time.”

The Big Library Read program is made possible through a partnership between OverDrive, the leading supplier of eBooks to libraries, and Chronicle Books, publisher of Aida Mollenkamp’s all-purpose guide to becoming a more adventurous cook.
