Board of Supervisors Ratifies Sheriff’s Emergency Declaration for Redding Neighborhood Explosives

On February 11, 2014 the Shasta County Board of Supervisors ratified Sheriff Tom Bosenko’s local emergency declaration issued on February 7, 2014.

This ratification clears the way for Governor Brown to review the local proclamation and determine if he will proclaim a state of emergency for the County of Shasta.

State of Emergency proclamations allow for easier access to state and outside resources to assist in bringing such incidents to a speedy and successful conclusion.

Mandatory evacuations are still in effect for residents in the immediate area. The public and press are still asked to say out of the area for safety concerns. As a reminder, the evacuation center for displaced residents is located at the National Guard Armory, 3025 South St., Redding.

Affected residents are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross with questions regarding accommodations or other available resources. They can be reached at 244-8000, or by stopping by the evacuation center.

It is estimated that this incident could take several weeks to be resolved.
