Reflections In The Mirror (While Shaving) #34

•How do you want to be perceived as you gently age?…

•We exercise, tan, bleach, plug, lift, lipo, crown, laser and stuff.

•Some of us are seeking beauty or youth…

•A friend said she strives to be tidy…I LOVE that.

•I wish I could state my goal so simply, with tongue firmly in cheek…

•I keep wanting to add adjectives or modifiers.

•Handsome? Suave? Naaw…a little too mature for that.

•Return to the past? Nope…I’ve enjoyed the ride.

•I’m a bit flummoxed … (waited all year to use that word).

•Ok I owe “flummoxed” to a friend also but I need to claim something original.

•I hate trying to force a word into a sentence… I abjure not to do that.

•Have you noticed I lose my train of thought easily?

•I would like to be perceived as complicated but that train has already left.

•What train?

•Enough trains have left I’m concerned I have that dreaded disease … somethin’itis.

•A confluence of ideas is agitating my brain … dang, I was so close.

•The end of the year holidays always makes me think of a deep fryer…

•Growing up I was reminded every holiday that anything boiled or baked could be fried. I have to admit a handful of Crisco and later boxed Gallo made for tasty meals.

•About a year ago, I cavalierly announced I was working on two projects… haven’t written a word since…or has it been two years?

•Sooo … I’m announcing I’m not working on any written project…maybe a literary osmosis will occur…. resolution… lay the dictionary aside.

•The more money I make, the less money I have … I’ve missed a very important step.

•Other steps I’ve missed:

•How do I show sensitivity without coming across as whiny?

•Does the appearance of sensitivity accomplish the same as really being sensitive?

•Hopefully next year will be a mulligan, rewind, gimme, retouch, redo or just plain better.

  1. I very much enjoy "Reflection" Thanks Doug.

Thank you Joanne. I didn't answer sooner because my computer sometimes just looks at me and sadly shakes its little shiny screen.

  2. Happy New Year, Doug. As for me, I wrote a song called "I'm Gonna Look Like Hell When I Get to Heaven." That pretty much sums it up. 🙂

And a happy one to you Erin…Your song would be more aptly titled "I'm Too Pretty To Look Bad." Maybe we can have a bad song title contest. I'll start with "I Put My Foot In My Mouth Before You Put Your Boot To MY Butt." Ok Ok I quit.

  3. OK, so you have "abjured" your previous format for "Reflections" and are now using bullet point journalism. I like that, being ADHD as I am when it comes to leisure reading, this gives me a chance to get all the way to the bottom. Thanks!

I love this post. The format to me is a signal to me to "write it down when I think it."
You know our brains have "reading people" down so well that it's not a good idea to fake anything including caring or sensitivity. Just being who you are works best. From what I've heard, you are caring and sensitive and if you can't deliver the required amount when needed….so be it.

Thank you. I appreciate the comment. I don't like the feeling that a thought has drifted away…writing it down at least lets me review later… and am sometimes sorry I didn't let it keep drifting.

I've missed you here at the cafe. Any lawyer that can cause me to giggle, chortle, guffaw can't be all bad!!
And bullet journalism ain't all bad. I'd rather have them in my reading than any other place!!

I've missed the cafe. My "points" seem to be a little less rifle and a little more shotgun…bigger targets…thats all I need.
