Shasta Dam 75th Anniversary Celebration this Week

In 1938 thousands of hard working people arrived in rural Shasta County to build a dam, and to build a dream.

Promising flood control and relief from droughts, Shasta Dam was to be the keystone of the massive Central Valley Project, and would forever change California.

For many though, it was so much more personal. It brought hope. It would mean for them a job to be able to support their families after the Great Depression and Dust Bowl, and it meant renewed pride in themselves, and their country. This was a great thing. and they came to be a part of it.

As Shasta Dam marks its 75th anniversary of construction beginning, we can’t help but reflect back on the people who came here with a strong work ethic, pride in what they did, and hope in their heart. It was the end of the Great Depression, and many came in search of work, and stayed to build the community.

We are that community today, and want to pay respect and honor those that started what we all enjoy today- Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, and our home.

Come help us celebrate this important milestone in our community’s history. We have many exciting activities planned for the week. Everyone is welcome!
