Need help financing college? High school seniors have one last chance to attend a Cash for College workshop at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 20th, at the Shasta College University Center in downtown Redding (1400 Market Street, Room 8220). This make-up workshop is open to all high school seniors and their parents.
Cash for College workshops are FREE events hosted by local high schools and community organizations where high school seniors and their families receive information and assistance in applying for financial aid. High school counselors, financial aid professionals and college access program staff are on hand to help guide students and families through completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Information about how financial aid works, Cal Grant eligibility, and resources for foster youth and non-residents is also presented. For a list of what information to bring, go to www.calgrants.org and click on “Cash for College.”
Every workshop with 25 or more seniors in attendance qualifies for a $1,000 and a $2,000 scholarship. To be eligible for the scholarship, high school seniors must attend and complete a survey at a workshop, complete a FAFSA and submit his or her high school GPA to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) by March 2nd. (Non-residents can submit a CA Dream Application instead of a FAFSA.) The scholarship will be randomly chosen from workshop participants.
Cash for College is supported by the California Student Aid Commission, College OPTIONS, local high schools, California community colleges and universities, local community organizations and ECMC.
For more information, contact Nick Webb at College OPTIONS at 530-245-1845. Pre-registration is not required to attend.
College OPTIONS helps students of all ages and their families in Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity counties make informed choices about post-high school education by providing advisors in the schools, confidential financial aid advising, free workshops, and up-to-date information related to post-secondary enrollment.http://www.collegeoptions.org/
