Photography captures and preserves moments in time. A moment in a photograph stays with us; it is the captured instant where emotion, light, composition and color can come together to create an amazing and memorable image, Sandi Howell says of her work, which will be displayed from Aug. 30 to Oct. 1 at the Carter House Gallery. A reception takes place Sept. 10.
“Through a photograph, I am allowed to relive what would otherwise be lost forever. I might be worlds or years away from the original location where I experienced a ‘moment’ and captured it, and yet, the second that my eyes gaze upon the photo, I am transported back in time to that place. Subsequently, the memory of all my senses and emotions that were originally part of that ‘moment’ can be ignited and my heart and mind can be stirred again.”
