Chico Area Farm Tours Continue This Weekend

What: Chico Area Farm Tours
When: Saturday and Sunday (June 11 and 12) and June 26 
Where: Three farms — Chaffin Family Orchards, Massa Organics and GRUB CSA
Cost: Adults: $15 tour or meal; kids under 6, free; kids over 6, $8.

Through a series of farm tours, visitors will learn and gain a greater understanding of their local farmers and producers and how they grow and make the food we eat. The last day of the series will conclude with a picnic focused on the delicious foods from these farms. Kids under 6 are free.

On Saturday, June 11: Chaffin Family Orchards. This 5th-generation farm uses a combination of “Non-Toxic, Permaculture, Natural, and Biodynamic Farming methods” to create a diversified ranch ecosystem supporting grass-fed animals, citrus, stone fruit, olives, among other offerings. On Sunday, June 12: Massa Organics. A family farm (4th generation) proving that it can be an “integral part of a functioning ecosytem,” growing certified organic rice, almonds, and wheat. Tour from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Carpool at 12:45pm and 1:15pm. Visit www.massaorganics.com.

On Sunday, June 26: GRUB CSA. Raised with a passion for yummy, wholesome food the “veggie goodness” from the GRUB CSA farm is sustainably-grown, chemical-free and 2nd-generation approved. Tour from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Picnic from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Visit grubchico.org.
