What: Public meeting to launch Artifact Creative Studios, a specialized program at Central Valley High School.
When: Friday, April 24, 2009, 5 p.m.
Where: Community Room, Redding Library, 1100 Parkview.
More: A four-year academy, Artifact Creative Studios will provide advanced, practical training in fine arts, media production and graphic design with a strong foundation in humanities.
Students who are interested in media production and design, specializing in areas such as digital art production, journalism, web design, and traditional fine and graphic arts, will receive training in both digital and classical production throughout their four-year high school career.
In conjunction with the arts curriculum, students will engage in humanities-based study within ELA and social science classes, designed to provide the cultural and analytical base necessary to become employable in the graphic and digital production fields as well as enter college with a highly advanced skill set.
Artifact students will travel as a cohort of 30 through the program’s courses, culminating in the production of an electronic portfolio, intern or assist in related community businesses and help develop local projects. Enrollment in one or more Advanced Placement courses is also strongly encouraged.
Students who apply to the program in 2009 will be selected based on interest, teacher recommendation and their ability to succeed in an intensely focused program of study.
