Free Firewood Available at Whiskeytown
Last winter saw a series of storms that took down many trees and large bushes at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Park crews cleared the developed areas of trees, cut them into rounds and transported them to a central gathering point. One pickup load per household will be given away at no charge on a first come/first served basis. Pickup drivers may arrive between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 16 only. The location of the wood is in a locked fenced area off of Grizzly Gulch road, which is on the north side of Highway 299 across from Oak Bottom Campground. Signs will direct drivers to the firewood area. Identification is required of drivers and loads must be safely and completely secured before departing the loading area. Park staff will be on scene to ensure safe loading.
