Did you hear the great news that Czech citizens may soon be allowed to travel to the United States without a visa? It’s true.
President Bush signed a bill last year that said as much. It could go into effect as early as November.
That’s happy news in our family since my son, Joseph, lives in the Czech Republic with his Czech bride, Marie, who’s never been to the U.S., but would like to visit.
My son and his wife tried and failed to secure a tourist visa for Marie so Joe could bring her to his country to meet his friends, the rest of his family and show her around.
The United States said no. The Czech Republic didn’t care one way or another.
Good! Dobré!
I must mention, however, that this wonderful visa waiver news coincides with a potentially dangerous deal for the Czech Republic. Bush wants to plant a U.S. missle defense radar in the Czech Republic.
As much as I rejoice at the thought of free borders between the Czech Republic and the United States, I worry about what ultimate price the Czech people may eventually pay.
