Anniversaries and retirements are not the same

Someone might tell that to Marc Beauchamp, who hasn’t been the Record Searchlight’s business reporter for some time now, but still blogs on Redding.com.

Today he posted a royal whopper of a mistake when he said he heard Dugan Barr held a retirement bash in The Mall in downtown Redding yesterday.

Wrong.

The truth is Dugan’s party in The Mall celebrated 40 years of practicing law.

I didn’t “hear” this. I know it because I attended the party, where Dugan’s friends joined in congratulating him on a long and successful career as a lawyer, and many, many more years to come.

Let’s review, shall we?

An anniversary is not the same as retirement.

And gossip is not the same as accurate reporting.
