(Pssst, Want 2 *Free Tickets?) – Men Play Glass; Make Music With Class

crystalharmony

You’ve heard the single tone that reverberates from a wine glass after a dampened finger moves around its rim.

Riiiinng.

Pretty, isn’t it?

Now imagine what happens when a trio of award-winning Serbian musicians – Crystal Harmony – perfect and perform that technique upon scores of glass instruments – verrophon, glasharp and glass flute – lending new sounds to old classical works by such composers as Mozart, Boccerini and Vivaldi.

Those who attend Monday’s March 2 concert of Crystal Harmony at 7:30 p.m. at the Redding Convention Center will hear for themselves. (Steve Brewer mentioned it in his Corner Booth, too.)

It’s so mesmerizing that I’ve watched the video clip three times already. (Click here for the website with the video. Normally I’d link to it, but you can choose what’s most compatible for your computer from either Quicktime Video Clip or Windows Media Video Clip.)

Tickets are limited, and are available at the Redding Convention Box office. The cost is $30 for adults, $12 for students.

But wait, there’s more: Janet Applegarth-Yarbrough, president of Shasta Community Concert Association, reminds us that the SCCA offers a free “outreach” program for students at 10:30 a.m. the morning of most concerts. The outreach is a 45-minute shortened version of the evening concert, and yes, it is FREE to ALL full-time students (public, private and home-schooled). The SCCA can even sometimes cover the cost of busing, if necessary. Click here for more information about the outreach concerts, or email music4schools@shastacommunityconcerts.com, if not for this concert, then next season’s.

Oh, and speaking of the next concert season, membership sales for the 2009-2010 begin March 1. (While the SCCA website doesn’t yet mention the new season’s information, I trust it will soon.)

*Free tickets, anyone?

The Shasta Community Concert Association kindly donated a pair of tickets to A News Cafe readers so two lucky music-lovers might attend Monday night’s Crystal Harmony concert at the Redding Convention Center. To enter the drawing to win the tickets, send an email before 7 p.m. today (Fri. Feb. 27) to anewscafe@gmail.com with the words “free tickets” in the subject line.

Good luck.
