Shasta College Theatre To Perform Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House”

This fall, the Shasta College Theatre Department will bring Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” to life, a play steeped in potent social commentary and compelling characters. This timeless story, set in 19th-century Norway, explores the intricate dynamics of individual identity, societal expectations, and personal liberation through the lens of Nora Helmer, a seemingly happy wife and mother.

“A Doll’s House” will engage viewers as Nora desperately navigates the confines of marriage and societal norms while the façade of domestic bliss crumbles around her. Audiences will be captivated by Nora’s profound journey of personal awakening and empowerment as she grapples with her autonomy and her sacrifices to conform to societal expectations. The play challenges the status quo and invites viewers to reflect on themes of gender roles, individuality, and freedom that remain deeply relevant today.

Henrik Ibsen is renowned for the indelible mark his groundbreaking works left on European theatre. Shasta College’s production features Amy Herzog’s acclaimed translation, bringing fresh life into this classic work. Herzog’s adaptation maintains the play’s emotional intensity while making it accessible to contemporary audiences, promising an exhilarating and thought-provoking experience.

Performances will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Shasta College Theatre on October 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19, with additional matinée performances at 2:00 p.m. on October 13 and 20. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for senior citizens over 65, and $5 for students.
