Shasta College will hold its 73rd Commencement ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, in the Shasta College Memorial Stadium. To date, there are 1196 applications for Associate Degrees, 606 applications for certificates, 380 Transfer degree graduates, 363 Honors graduates, and 12 Bachelor of Science graduates for 2023. Shasta College Student Senate President, Joran Jones, will present the class and Superintendent/President, Dr. Joe Wyse, will give the welcoming address. Flag bearers will be Laura Ecklin, Excellent Educator of the Year (Part-time Faculty) and Scott Gordon, Excellent Educator of the Year (Full-time Faculty) and Joran Jones, Student Senate President.
Dr. Lizette Navarette, Ed.D., has served as Interim Deputy Chancellor since November 2022, and is this year’s commencement speaker. Dr. Navarette earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from UC Riverside, where she also served as student body president. She earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne and a Doctorate in Education from UC Davis. Dr. Navarette brings nearly two decades of higher education and local government experience to her current role. She’s been with the Chancellor’s Office since 2020 and also oversees the Office of Institutional Supports and Success. Dr. Navarette is a proud first-generation graduate.
