SCOE Superintendent Appointed to Statewide Advisory Group

Judy Flores, Shasta County Superintendent of Schools incumbent: 27,851- 57.09%

PRESS RELEASE
Date: November 2, 2022

Shasta County Schools Superintendent Judy Flores was appointed today to a
statewide advisory group that will provide guidance to the State Board of Education
on areas of assessment and accountability. Flores is the only county superintendent
on the 15-member California Practitioners Advisory Group.

This advisory group provides the State Board of Education with input on the design
and implementation of California’s accountability system, which impacts more than
1,000 school districts statewide. “I’m hoping we can provide helpful context and
advisement to the State Board of Education so the system will continue to be refined
and bring greater success for all students,” Superintendent Flores said.

During her nearly 40-year career in education, Superintendent Flores has developed
trainings on how to use data to identify students’ greatest needs, and determine
what is needed to improve student success. She is one of three county
superintendents who has been involved from the beginning of the Statewide System
of Support.

“Superintendent Flores has a holistic and comprehensive understanding of the
dynamic intersectionality of accountability, teaching, and learning within California’s
diverse public educational system,” said Karen Stapf-Walters, executive director of
the California County Superintendents Association. “Superintendent Flores has been
at the table with the California Department of Education and the State Board of
Education since the initial design discussions of our current accountability system …
(she) continues to be a prominent voice today in workgroups facilitated by the
California Collaborative for Educational Excellence.”
