Shasta College To Hold 72nd Commencement Ceremony

Shasta College will hold its 72nd Commencement ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, in the Shasta College Memorial Stadium. To date, there are 1456 applications for diplomas, 449 applications for certificates, 290 Transfer degree graduates, 391 Honors graduates, and 6 Bachelor of Science graduates for 2022. Shasta College Student Senate President, Anika Carterby, will present the class and Superintendent/President, Dr. Joe Wyse, will give the welcoming address. Flag bearers will be Ryan Newcomer, Classified Employee of the Year, Desislava Pedeva-Fazlic, Excellent Educator of the Year (Part-time Faculty) and Leo Fong, Excellent Educator of the Year (Full-time Faculty).


Larry Galizio, President & CEO of the Community College League of California, is this year’s commencement speaker. Dr. Galizio earned his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, a Masters from San Francisco State, and his doctorate from the School of Urban & Public Affairs at Portland State University. Prior to becoming League CEO, Dr. Galizio served 5 years as President of Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon. Before that, Dr. Galizio was the Director for Strategic Planning in the Chancellor’s Office for the Oregon University System, as well as Director of Speech & Debate and Full-Time faculty member at Portland Community College for 16 years. In 2004, Dr. Galizio was elected to the Oregon Legislative Assembly where he served 3 terms.
