Patricia Cook is a self-taught pastelist who studied both historic pastel masters as well as contemporary artists, and has attended many workshops for hands-on training. From the first time she touched pastel to paper she was hooked on the buttery and expressive medium that soft pastel offered. Her painting style is usually more representational than impressionistic, but she finds the greatest creative expression in the latter. A new mode of expression entails combining monotype prints with pastels, which involves printing with ink first, then highlighting the image with the soft pastels. The North State and eastern Oregon offer much to inspire pleinair and studio art expression.
