The latest storm system moving into our area has caused enough water accumulation to prompt the Bureau of Reclamation to begin releasing an excess amount of water from Keswick Dam. Ahead of the scheduled release Thursday morning, The City of Redding Public Works Department will close a portion of Park Marina Drive between Locust Street and Parkview Avenue on Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. All businesses in the area are encouraged to find an alternate route to work, and prepare for excess water in parking lots and the roadway.
Public Works will announce when the road reopens. Please stay mindful of other roads that may experience flooding, and never enter a road that has been closed due to flooding. As a reminder, never attempt to cross a flooded roadway. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters.
