Wet, cold, clumpy and clingy are not exactly the hallmarks of a winter wonderland, but that’s what west Redding residents woke up to Wednesday morning. It appears a chilly sleeper cell of sorts caught the National Weather Service off-guard, but such is life in the forecasting game.
Enjoy (?) the snow while it lasts as the current forecast calls for a few showers turning into steady rain on Wednesday afternoon. Northerly winds from 5 to 10 mph could be problematic for already-burdened trees so keep an eye out.
Caltrans crews are busy plowing I-5, which is closed north of Redding from Fawndale to the Oregon border. The ETA for reopening the freeway is 3 hours, or approximately 3:15 p.m. “Remember to have patience, slow down, and work with us for the safety of highway workers and the traveling public,” Caltrans said in a recent Twitter post.
