Violent Fight in Parkview Park

On June 12, 2018, around 4:15 p.m., officers from the Redding Police Department were dispatched to Parkview Park regarding a physical altercation. A citizen called to report that two men were beating another man with golf clubs. While officers were responding to the location it was reported that a machete was now being used in the fight and the subjects were swinging the machete and golf club back and forth at one another.

Officers arrived and immediately contacted the subjects involved in the altercation. One of the individuals was Edmond Lee Jung (38 years old of Redding). The second involved subject was John Allen Workman (51 years of Shasta Lake City). Both subjects had sustained non-life threatening injuries and admitted to being in a physical fight over a dispute about property. Both were uncooperative in giving specific details about how the golf club and machete were involved in the fight. A machete was recovered at the scene along with a hammer. Jung admitted to throwing the golf club into the brush along the river when officers arrived, however it could not be located. A third man was contacted but not determined to be involved in the actual fight.

Officers are very familiar with Edmond Jung, who has been arrested dozens of times by the Redding Police Department. Jung is on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) for theft of a motor vehicle. Since June 10, 2015, Edmond Jung has been booked into the Shasta County Jail twenty six times for suspicion of committing a variety of crimes to include domestic violence, resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, possession of drugs and paraphernalia, warrants and violations of probation. Jung was last arrested on multiple warrants for his arrest on June 1, 2018. He was held in custody for 3 days and 4 hours before being released on his own recognizance after a court hearing.

A search of Edmond Jung led to the discovery of a bag of methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe. Jung was transported to a local hospital for a medical clearance and then booked at the Shasta County Jail for possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and a violation of PRCS.

John Allen Workman has been arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail four times since October of 2017. His last arrest was on June 8, 2018, for a warrant for failure to appear. He was released the same day.
