Verbal Dispute Between Two Men Results in Stabbing

On June 11th, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Redding Police Department officers responded to Parkview Park in regards of a stabbing that had just occurred. Two men were in a verbal dispute over an unknown matter. Witnesses reported a suspect described as a Native American male adult in his mid-30s, wearing red shorts and no shirt stabbed Gary Swinhart, 53 years of age, of Redding. The suspect fled the scene towards the Sacramento River.

Swinhart was stabbed once in the abdomen area and the injury was non-life threatening. The California Highway Patrol helicopter and Redding Police Department officers searched the area for the suspect; however, they were unable to locate him. Swinhart declined medical assistance and left the area on foot.
