Thank you to every one of you who contribute to this site to promote ongoing local journalism. On behalf of everyone at, we appreciate you more than words or coffee cakes can fully express.

Winners, I will be contacting you to make arrangements for delivery. Congratulations!

With love and gratitude,

Happy 2018! As promised in December, each month I will draw a name from those who are recurring monthly contributors to aNews

It’s my way to say thank you to this especially generous group of readers. Whether your recurring contribution is $5 a month, $25, or more a month or more, your name will be in the drawing.

Last month our first winner was Mary Speigle of Redding. Thank you, Mary!

The drawing will take place Friday morning, and because I’m feeling especially grateful for this new year and new opportunities, I will draw five names. Each winner may choose from one of my sour cream coffee cakes, or a loaf of challah. And if the winners want to delay receiving their gifts for another time (such as when they have company visiting), I can do that, too.

Click on the link below for the easy way to set up your recurring donation. When you contribute to, you help support local grassroots journalism on this site. As a token of my thanks I’ll make sure you’re in the running each month for some of my most popular baked treats. Good luck, and thank you! (Next month, it’ll be something chocolate for Valentine’s Day.)

Whoever the lucky winners are, you won’t be sorry! From my own experience, I know that Doni’s coffee cake is decadent. Phil Stone’s favorite is her carrot cake. Challah? Chocolate? It’s well she’s allowing the winners the opportunity to wait a while before collecting since most of us are in resolving mode thanks to all the holiday treats.

    • Oh, sure. I can make a carrot cake, too. 🙂 Thanks, Beverly. You know I love to bake, and this monthly give-away gives me a good excuse to make things I’m not supposed to eat.
