Bite into a little bit of vengeance this July as Shasta College presents Stephen Sondheim’s musical thriller Sweeney Todd. Wrongfully convicted of a crime he did not commit Sweeney Todd returns to London after 15 years of exile to take vengeance on the corrupt judge who banished him. Along the way, he meets a cast of entertaining characters, such as Ms. Lovett, who makes the best meat pies in London. Performance dates for Sweeney Todd will be July 7th-23rd at the Shasta College Theatre. This production is for mature audiences only.
Sweeney Todd won the Tony award for “Best Musical” in 1980 and is frequently revived on Broadway and across the country as a classic of the American Musical. With lyrics and music by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, it is known for its breathtaking storyline as well as its gorgeous musical score.
Performances begin at 7pm on Friday, July 7th through Saturday July 8th, Thursday July 13th through Saturday July 15th and Thursday July 20th through Saturday July 22nd. Sunday matinee performances are at 2pm on July 9th, 16th, and 23rd. Don’t miss this summer’s most exciting musical theatre event! The production features Shasta College students and Redding community members including: Blake Fisher, Jacob McDuffy, Brian Bisetti and Jessica Cox. The production is directed by Dr. Gregory Thorson with David Fraser as the set designer, costumes by Hilary Fahey, lighting by Eddie Sadler and hair and makeup by Matthew McDonald. Musical direction is by Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury, with choreography by Hillary Rogerson. Sweeney Todd is produced with special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.
