With New Year’s resolutions facing from our minds, we still may be seeking ways to achieve some of our goals: Spend time with family! Engage in healthful activities! Build relationships with coworkers! Seek ways to benefit our community! The answer to all these goals is coming up – The Shasta Mud Run!
Sponsored by the Youth Violence Prevention Council for its fourth year, the Shasta Mud Run will be held again this year at the McConnell Foundation’s beautiful Ross Ranch on May 14, 2016. Each year, popularity of the event grows, and last year it attracted 1100 participants. The Shasta Mud Run includes 5K and 10K courses with amazing wet and muddy obstacles, such as last year’s breath-taking slides into mud pits, a barbed-wire crawl, swinging tires, a “jail-break tunnel” emerging within a port-a-potty, and many others.
This family-friendly event also offers a FREE kids’ mud pit area with seating for parents. Vendors provide opportunities to purchase food and beverages, music plays to raise the participants’ spirits until the VIP after-party, and a photo booth captures enduring memories of the day! The event provides an excellent opportunity for team-building, as many friends and coworkers team up to cheer one another on; last year’s event drew 84 teams sponsored by local businesses.
While enjoying the outdoor activities, you will be benefiting Shasta County youth. The Youth Violence Prevention Council, a 501c3 nonprofit, was originally formed in 1996 to address problems associated with gang activity in Shasta County. Since that time, the YVPC has undertaken additional programs that serve local youth, including the Youth Peer Court, PlusONE Mentors, Youth Fire-setter Prevention and Intervention, Graffiti Eradication, and the Shasta Youth Leadership Camp (SYLC). Last year the Shasta Mud Run raised more than $25,000, and this year your entry fee will help the YVPC support and maintain these vital programs.
