Turtle Bay launches crowdfunding campaign for art in Shasta County schools

Turtle Bay Famous Artist Program

On October 28 Turtle Bay Exploration Park launched a two-week crowdfunding campaign to support the Famous Artists Portfolio Program with a goal of $5,000 in support. The Famous Artists Portfolio Program inspires Shasta County kids to love art with volunteer-powered, ready-made lessons.

Since 1985, Turtle Bay Exploration Park and its predecessor museum, Redding Museum of Art and History, have brought museum-quality art lessons to Shasta County children (grades K-6) through the Famous Artists Portfolio Program. Trained volunteers visit local classrooms throughout the year, choosing from over 70 ready-made lesson plans and art activities featuring famous artists. This program teaches art in a fun and hands-on way, offers extra help to busy teachers, and culminates each year in a museum-quality exhibition at Turtle Bay where students and their families can view their own art in a professional setting.

The $5,000 Turtle Bay is working to raise covers:

·      Program management (staff support) – $2,500

·      Volunteer training – $500

·      Materials & supplies – $1,500

·      Exhibition of works – $200

·      Marketing – $300 (for volunteer recruitment and exhibition promotion)
