Shasta Family YMCA is beginning construction on its Outdoor Sports Court today. The Y received a nearly $44,000 grant from The McConnell Fund of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation and a $5,000 donation from Bethel to complete construction on an outdoor sports court which will include two junior-size outdoor basketball courts, volleyball and pickleball lines and net sleeves.  The outdoor sports court will expand open play time, provide additional space to expand our youth clinics and activities, and other outdoor programming.

This project began nearly two years ago when the YMCA of the Central Bay Area offered to donate 4 commercial basketball hoops to the Shasta Family YMCA. Upon hearing the news, several generous community members donated time and materials to begin the project in an attempt to provide much-needed additional court space. The excavation, grading and compaction are complete thanks to these donors and volunteers, and this grant covers the concrete foundation and striping to complete the project.

“We are very excited to have received this funding and begin the project. This court will greatly increase our usable facility space allowing us to better serve our members and entire community.” says Kristen Lyons, CEO, Shasta Family YMCA.
