A percentage of funds that are seized during traffic stops, search warrants and other incidents involving controlled substances is placed in a special juvenile account. This fund is dedicated to the development and continuation of positive intervention programs for high-risk elementary and secondary school age students. These funds are made available to local organizations serving youth in our community. Funds are to be used for programs designed to combat drug abuse and divert gang activity.
The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force began an application process in 2015 for organizations to complete and submit for consideration. Awards ranged from $5,000.00 and up, at the SINTF Advisory Board’s discretion.
SINTF sent out numerous letters and emails to local organizations with instructions on how to apply. SINTF received seven applications. The organizations are as follows; The Salvation Army, Local Indians for Education, Inc, Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council, Girls Incorporated of the Northern Sacramento Valley, The YMCA, Partners for a Drug-Free Community/Shasta County Chemical People, and the Youth Violence Prevention Council of Shasta County. All seven applicants were granted funding to their programs.
The total granted amount for all organizations was $53,520.00.
A recognition ceremony will be held on September 2nd at 10:00 am at the Shasta County Board of Supervisors Chambers. All members of the community and press are invited to celebrate these organizations and the programs that will be funded through this new award process.
