“Plan for a Secure Retirement: Are You Ready?” will be the subject of a free seminar hosted by the Social Security Administration (SSA) on Tuesday, August 25.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Redding Library on Parkview Avenue. Two SSA employees will present a brief overview of Retirement, Survivor, and Medicare benefits and then answer general questions about each program.
“This informational seminar is geared toward people ages 57 to 65,” said Jennifer Cooper, District Manager of the Redding Social Security Office, “because that age group has either retired or is seriously thinking about it.
“Everyone is invited, though, and we’ll answer as many questions as we can during the two-hour program.”
Cooper encourages everyone to create a “mySocialSecurity” account by going to the agency’s website at www.ssa.gov .
“They should bring that information with them on August 25th because it will show them approximately how much they will receive at age 62 and beyond,” Cooper said. “There are advantages to taking the benefits at the earliest possible age, and there are advantages to waiting. No two situations are ever the same and that’s one the points we’ll be stressing.”
